Museum exhibitions are held each month and Black History month which celebrates Antigua’s emancipation from slavery is held in February. April is the time for the Stanford Antigua Sailing Week while Calypso is held in June. The Caribbean Comedy Festival, a very amusing event, is held in December. St. John’s restaurants offer sumptuous local, Caribbean and international meals. Local markets offer fresh Caribbean produce such as mangoes. There are day cruises available to other parts of the island and the Caribbean Sea. Fort James and Deep Bay, popular for surfing, are the town’s main beaches.
