There are flights into Taitung from Taipei and Kaohsiung, and there are trains into the city from a variety of centers throughout the country. There are car and scooter hire companies in Taitung, but you will need an international driver’s license in order to make use of them. Alternatively, there are buses, taxis and bicycle hire companies, or, since the city center is small, you could opt to walk through the city. When in Taitung, make sure you visit the Museum of Prehistory, which is a fascinating place, filled with ancient stone coffins and thousands of stone and pottery artifacts from the area. The Tianhou Temple, which is dedicated to Mazu, is another attraction worth visiting, and there are plenty of other temples, museums and other attractions to choose from. The Taitung Seashore Park and Forest Park are a good place to explore the natural surroundings of this small city, and there are hiking and biking trails, forests, and of course the seashore to explore.
