It was founded in medieval times, and was mentioned in the papal register as early as the early 14th century. Over the years, there were several battles and occupations in the area, but much of the history of the city has been preserved in old buildings, and there are several other attractions on offer. The Cultural Palace is one of the best known of these, and dates back to the early part of the twentieth century. Within the palace itself, the Mirrors Hall is the most popular attraction for visitors. Other sites of interest include the city hall, which is also an early twentieth century building, and the City Fortress, which includes the reformed church, built between the beginning and the middle of the 17th century.
