Guided tours through the Castle of Trikala can prove quite interesting while the nearby town of Kalabaka with the Meteora World Heritage Site and the hanging rocks is a must see. You can also take a bus or train and explore the famous city of Athens and the rest of the Thessaly region. Trikala is home to several local events held throughout the year including festivals, exhibits and live shows. Saint Paraskevi’s Festival and the Prophet’s Ilias Day are held in July, the 12 Apostles’ Day occurs in June and August is when the Transfiguration and the Saint Mandilios events are held. The first ten days in August is dedicated to the lively Wine Festival. There are several accommodations available in Trikala in the form of hotels, guest houses and holiday homes.
