or Turgutreis accommodation? The town of Turgutreis is an important fruit and vegetable growing area on the Bodrum Peninsula, around an hour from the Bodrum International Airport. Turgutreis was named for Turgut Reis, or Dragut, who was born there in 1485, and was a well-known explorer and an admiral. In fact, Sabanci Park, which is a few kilometers from the centre of the town, features a statue and fountain dedicated to him, on the same spot from which he originally set sail. Aside from being the second largest town in the Bodrum area, and an important economic and historical centre, Turgutreis is also a popular tourist destination, and has, in recent years, developed to accommodate this. Now, you will find restaurants, bars and resorts lining the five kilometer beach that is frequented by Turkish and foreign visitors. There are also several islands just off the coast of Turgetreis, as well as several shipwrecks.
