or Vaasa accommodation? Vaasa is a city on the west coast of Finland. Vaasa is located in the Province of Western Finland on the Gulf of Bothnia. It received its charter in 1606, during the reign of Charles IX of Sweden and is named after the Royal House of Vaasa. Vaasa was rebuilt closer to the sea after a devastating fire in 1852. It is a pleasant town with wooden buildings and interesting markets, it is also the terminus of the northernmost year-round car ferry; ferries ply a route to Sweden. In the town there’s also the Ostrobothnian Museum, which offers a history of the region, as well as the Wasalandia amusement park and zoo. Approximately 10 miles or 17 km from Vaasa is the Stundars Handicraft Village in Solf where you will be able to obtain fancy souvenirs for home. On the Gulf of Bothnia, Vaasa hosts the International Puppet Theater, which is held in June during the city’s Vaasa Festival. Each year, the town also hosts a five day international celebration of choral music. Over a 100 concerts are held at venues including churches, concert halls, schools and restaurants.
