This Texan city has a sunny climate all throughout the year with interesting rock formations and home to mule deer, upland game birds and pronghorn antelope. To get a picture of nature surrounding the city’s area, tourists may want to go to Red Rock Ranch, where they can participate in a hiking or driving tour complete with an introduction to the geology of Chihuahua Desert and a visit to the largest array of petroglyphs in the southwest. Other interesting places to go while in van Horn are the Van Horn City Park, Clark Hotel Museum, 9-hole Mountain View Golf Course, and Culberson County Historical Museum.

The mixed culture of Van Horn is evident in its festivals. The year begins with the January Culberso County Stock Show filled with barbeque and western dance. Mexico’s culture and tradition, on the other hand is celebrated through the Cinco de Mayo Festival with food, music, and arts and crafts. It is followed by the June Frontier Days & Rodeo, which has been a tradition since 1899, and ends with the Christian-inspired event, the Annual Lighted Christmas Parade every December.

Space tourism will surely put Van Horn on the top. In 2006, the aerospace company of Blue Origin bought 290,000 acres of land for development for their space tourism project which brought new interest to the area. Blue Origins is expected to begin commercial operations in as early as 2010 and aims to launch 52 rockets per year from their Van Horn, Texas facility.
