or Vasteras accommodation? This is a city in central Sweden on the shore of Lake Malaren in the province of Vastmanland and can be reached by plain, train, or bus.
Once there the city is small enough to explore on foot but buses are available if you want to get around in the suburban areas. The city boasts with Sweden’s highest-located cocktail bar, situated in the skyscraper nicknamed “Skrapan” meaning The Skraper. While in the city why not go bowling followed by a meal in the city center. Wait an hour and enjoy the highly recommended bathing facility with a traditional 25-meter pool with a separate sauna section.
The city has a few good pubs for you to quench a thirst and O’Leary’s has a good selection of draft beers, bar food and a big screen for the sports enthusiasts to mention but one. The city also offers lovely eateries and one of them is Sjokrogen, just follow the river all the way down to the lake, sit down and enjoy a meal, a drink and the beautiful view.
Vasteras is famous for its cycle paths so traveling by bicycle is also cheap and easy. Visit Vasteras Castle which is walking distance from the train station, and follow Svartan creek northwards to find the old Cathedral dating back to the 13th century. Just a stone’s throw from the Cathedral lies Church Hill which is a nice area to follow the many small, winding lanes to admire the many old buildings and visit local arts and craft shops. Anundshog is a few miles west of Vasteras and is an ancient burial mound, the largest in Sweden. Alternatively, walk through Vasa Park to visit the Museam of Art and continue your way down to the Turbine House, one of Sweden’s first power plants.
Another nice park to wander around in is Djakneberget that features hundreds of stones with inscriptions by its enigmatic founder Sam Lidman or if you have, transport organized go visit the silver mine is Sala where they give daily tours down into the mine. Staying over? There is an unusual hotel by the artist Mikael Genberg. It is a single room tree house in Wasa Park called The Hotel Woodpecker. The same artist is responsible for a unique one room hotel in the lake where the bedroom is underwater.
