It is also among the very few cities and towns in Utah that were not settled by Mormon pioneers. Because Vernal is right in the heart of Dinosaurland, it is not at all surprising that the attractions that the city has to offer are related to dinosaurs. For instance, the Utah Field House of Natural History State Park features 17 life-sized replicas of dinosaurs along the paths of the dinosaur garden. The Dinosaur National Monument is just 20 miles away. The Red Fleet State Park is comprised of gigantic red rock formations that contain actual dinosaur footprints.
