or Vianden accommodation? The city of Vianden is located in the northeastern part of Luxembourg near the border of Germany. It lies in the Our River and valleys of Our, and is home to many historic buildings that tell of its historic past.
Resting atop the rocks that looms over the entire town is the magnificent Vianden Castle, the home of the Vianden counts who had close relations with the French and German royal families. Considered as one of Europe’s most majestic feudal castles, it was built between the 11th and 14th centuries and is even built on an edifice that dates back to the Roman times. Among the interesting parts of the castle are the courtyard, The Knights Hall, Arms Hall and the Archaeological Crypt.
An amazing view of the village of Vianden and the picturesque scenery of its surrounding areas can be seen through the Vianden Chairlift. Every summer, it takes its passengers 440 meters up the side of the mountain.
Other attractions in Vianden include the Victor Hugo House, the two museums–the Doll and Toy Museum and Museum of Arts and Crafts, many old churches including the 13th century Church of the Trinitarians and Church of St. Nicholas, the largest hydro-electric pumping station in Europe and the Hydro-Electric Plant Gallery.
