It contains volcanic caldera lakes called Maar and Kyll the largest river in the district. It has three parts Vulkanische Osteifel, Vulkanische Westeifel and Vulkanische Hocheifel each of which consists of 4 towns.
Things to see in Vulkaneifel include the Maar Lake and Laacher Lake. However, be sure to visit the the Lava-Dome a German volcanic museum, the Vulkanhaus musem and Eifel-Vulkan museum all in neighbouring districts. The Vulkanpark Brohltal/Laacher, the Vulkanpark Osteifel and the Vulkaneifel European Geopark.are all geological parks in the District and are quite interesting.

If you are a nature enthusiast, follow trails leading into the nature reserves, you will be amazed at its beauty. If you are an athletic person then enjoy swimming, diving, surfing, mountain biking, gliding skating among others.
