This little town has a very long history, and it was first settled, and named, in the 7th century. This was confirmed in the late 19th century, when the excavation for a hotel resulted in the unearthing of artifacts and human remains in the town. Officially, it was mentioned in documentation dating back to 1224. Like many towns in Switzerland, Wilderswill is a popular base for skiers, hikers, and mountaineers, being located in a valley that is surrounded by mountains, including Jungfrau, Monch, and Eiger.
