or Woodland Hills accommodation? Woodland Hills is located in San Fernando Valley in the City of Los Angeles in California, United States. Based on the Census of 2000, the population of this district is 67,006 but data from the Mapping L.A. project of the Los Angeles Times revealed that, in 2009, the population has decreased to 59,661. It is known to have the warmest weather in the city.
Chumash Indians were the earliest recorded settlers of Woodland Hills. In 1769, the Portola Expedition passed through the area and named it as the Valley of the Oaks; the men also encountered the Indians. Still, it took several centuries before the area was inhabited by white men.
Victor Girard Kleinberger bought a 2,886-acre land on which he founded in 1922 what he called as the Town of Girard. To attract residents and business investors to the area, he planted 120,000 trees, built various infrastructures, and advertised in various newspapers.
Local lore portrayed the founder as a schemer who created false store fronts which he placed on Ventura Boulevard to lure economic activity. It was said that he was jailed for this but the plan, true or not, actually worked. Today, some of the earliest establishments are still in operation – for instance, Girard Golf Course which was opened in 1922. Also, the district was renamed as Woodland Hills because of the trees that Kleinberger planted. - Browse the Woodland Hills Map or compare Woodland Hills accommodation from Hotels, Motels, B&Bs,
