The city is said to be the one of the oldest cities in the history of China and also one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China. The city which was once known as Chang’an which means ‘Perpetual Peace,’ has almost 3,100 years of historical significance. In fact, it used to be a part of the famous Silk Road of the ancient Chinese. Its location is also famous for being an archaeologist’s haven of ancient artifacts. As a matter of fact, it is the site of discovery of the Lantian Man that was found in 1963.
The city has developed an economy that is as competitive as other Chinese cities. Its main businesses include the software, outsourcing and telecommunications industries. Recent modern industries like the aerospace industry are also making a name for themselves as economic factors that help stabilize the city’s economy.
Xian City is one of the primary culturally-conscious cities in China, which preserves its culture that has descended from the earliest civilizations of Asia. Thus, because of its historical Chinese landmarks, it is also one of the first choices of tourist destinations in the region. Some of the most notable sights and attractions in the city are the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang, the City Wall of Xian, the Bell Tower and Drum Tower, The Great Mosque of Xian, The Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, the Stele Forest and the Wolong Temple.
