Grant. This declaration established Yellowstone as the first national park in the world. However, prior to that, the park has already been inhabited by Native American Indians who used the area for their hunting grounds and trading routes. Yellowstone is primarily situated in Wyoming but parts of it stretch as far as Montana and Idaho.

Known for its diverse ecosystems, the most famous of which is the subalpine forest, the park is also noted for Old Faithful Geyser, one of the most famous attractions in the area. Visitors will find a diverse collection of wildlife in the park, from lodgepole pine forests and subalpine fir to the lynx and the endangered gray wolf.

The park is visited by an estimated 2 million visitors each year, partly for the breathtaking natural scenery and the numerous recreation options that the park offers. With its nine hotels, lodges, visitors centers, museums and camping grounds, the park offers numerous recreation opportunities for families and other groups who also have the option of doing numerous activities in and around the park, from mountain climbing to kayaking and fly fishing. Feeding the animals was allowed in the park, but this practice has been subsequently banned following accidents and injuries to humans.
