or Yokohama accommodation? Yokohama is the second largest city in Japan and is visited regularly by many tourists. I was the first port opened to foreign trade in 1854, and is still a maritime city to this day, with an international flavor. Yokohama is only a half hour from Tokyo and is very easily reached by plane or train. Yokohama is note very car-friendly so to get around the city is best by using train, bus, boat, velo taxis, rickshaws or strolling around on foot. Chinatown in Yokohama is the largest in Japan, and dates back to 1859. It is popular with tourists, who visit it for the many Chinese grocery stores, and places to buy a cheap cheongsam or jade items. Sankei-en Park was opened in 1906 has many traditional Japanese buildings, of which 13 have been designated as national heritages. Yokohama Cosmo World is a small amusement park, which boasts the Cosmo Clock 21, a 112.5m ferris wheel which doubles as the world’s largest clock, with the 60 arms doubling as second hands. Landmark Plaza/Queens Square is a giant complex, with high-end shopping. It is also very popular with children, as it houses one of the five Pokemon Centers in Japan. Yokohama Bay Quarter has up-market stores, a great view of the waterfront and is pet-friendly. Lalaport Yokohama is a large shopping mall located in Kamoi, offering 370 shops, a cinema and restaurants. Ivi Italian Restaurant is recommended, a little expensive, but it is a nice place, with delicious food and a great night view of Yokohama. Kua’Aina has a big menu offering both standard and gourmet burgers, as well as some American-style sandwiches. Tachibana, Manchin-Ro and Los Amigos are mid-range restaurants. Los Amigos is owned and run by a Mexican lady, who serves genuine Mexican food, including Mexican pickles, chimichangs, mole and quesadillas. For high-end restaurants there are The Landmark Tower, which has Japanese, Chinese and French restaurants on the 68th floor. The food is expensive, but excellent and while you are enjoying your meal, you will have unparalleled views of Yokohama and Tokyo. Seryna is another high-end restaurant situated Kannai and Bashamichi stations. Steaks are served here, Japanese-style, and the place is set inside a turn-of-the-century Western atmosphere. There are many bars and pubs to choose from, if you feel like relaxing with a drink. Some of them are, Palm Bar and Café, Windjammer, Downbeat, Ishikawacho, to name but a few. For budget accommodation, you can try Kanagawa Youth Hostel or Yokohama Hostel Village, which is inexpensive, no deposit is required and you get your own kitchen and bathroom. The Shinyokohama Prince Hotel, one of the largest chains of hotels in Japan, is the ideal mid-range place to stay. Other mid-range hotels include Hotel Monterey Yokohama, Toyoko Inn Yokohama Sakuragi-cho and the Washington Hotel.
