or Youngstown accommodation? Youngstown is Ohio’s eighth largest city and the seat of Mahoning County, Ohio. Sitting on the banks of the Mahoning River, Youngstown is approximately 65 miles southeast of Cleveland and 10 miles from the Pennsylvania state line.
The city was named after John Young who settled in the area from Whitestown. He also built the county’s first sawmill and gristmill. Located right on the Rust Belt, Youngstown had to undergo a major economic overhaul when the US steel industry faced hard times in the 1970s. However, the town today has recovered and steel has once again become a major source of income for the city.
Popular Youngstown attractions include Covelli Center, a cultural, sports and recreational center. It regularly hosts professional hockey and football games, ice shows among others. The city also has a cultural life. Powers Auditorium is where most cultural productions are held, among them the performances of the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra. Powers Auditorium was built by the Warner Brothers in 1931. Aside from Powers Auditorium, four other auditoriums are dotted all over the city.
The city is also the home to the Butler Institute of American Art, inside the Youngstown State University campus. This was the first museum in the country that was built for collections of American Art. It stands just across the street from the McDonough Museum of Art, the home of contemporary art in the city. - Browse the Youngstown Map or compare Youngstown accommodation from Hotels, Motels, B&Bs,
