Attractions in Zalakaros also include the Nature Conservation Area, Kis-Balaton, the buffalo reserve of 80 species in Kápolnapuszta, located in between Zalakomar and Balatonmagyarod, and the bird preserve in Zimány. The small Kányavár Island can be visited free of charge. Tourist can also visit the castle in Keszthely by boat on the Lake Balaton. 20 km away from Zalakaros lays the small town of Nagykanizsa which offer attractions such as the Turkish well, he Synagogue, a church in the upper part of the town, Thury György Museum and the art gallery). You can even enjoy a tour a taste of wines at the vineyard of Szentgyörgyhegy and take a walk around the ruins of a fortress.
